IT ALL STARTED WITH A PANCAKE
Nick and Lauren met in 2021 in the most unexpected place: work. Lauren is an interior designer, and Nick walked into her office as a commercial flooring rep trying to win over the team. Bringing pancakes for everyone. Bold move. Unfortunately for him, Lauren is not and never will be a morning person, so her excitement at 9:00 a.m. was… less than convincing.
What she did have, though, was instant banter with Nick. They spent the entire presentation making each other laugh, and as he walked out the door, Lauren remembers thinking, "Well… maybe I'll marry that guy someday."
OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS...
...they became incredibly close friends. They talked all the time, cheered each other on through life changes, and everything in between. Somewhere along the way, friendship quietly turned into something more. During March Madness in 2024, Nick finally decided it might be worth seeing what everyone else already seemed to know. One date was all it took to realize the best relationships sometimes start with the best friendships.
THE REST HAPPENED PRETTY QUICKLY
In November 2025, Nick proposed in Greenville, South Carolina, and somehow managed to completely surprise Lauren (which is no small accomplishment). Surrounded by the beauty of downtown Greenville, South Carolina, Nick asked Lauren to marry him beside the Reedy River in the picturesque Old Mill Garden with all their close family there. A few months later, they bought their first home together in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. Between tackling projects on their 1905 house, debating design decisions (mostly Lauren making them), and chasing around their miniature schnauzer, Sampson, life has been wonderfully full ever since.
